American Girl vs Injustice
Introduction:
Some
people are already sick of my posts and #blacklivesmatter. Guess what?
I don’t care. It is time for me
to speak out and one of the best things I can do is to share the racial discrimination
I have personally witnessed/endured. As
a privileged white woman, I cannot begin to express what the black community
suffers on a daily basis; however, having spent most of my adult life in a
relationship with a black man, I can share what we went through. As the mother of a biracial, gay, drag queen
son, I can share my fears for him. As
the friend and family member of so many from different ethnicities, I can share
the pain I experience for them. Quite frankly, as a human being, I can express
my fear, sympathy, and love for my fellow human beings.
That
said, there are so many incidents that I could tell you from personal
experience . . . you would stop reading (if you haven’t already) if I put them
all in one essay. So, I will share one experience
each day. Stay tuned for more in the
coming days.
Today,
I just want to again express that you cannot answer #blacklivesmatter with
#alllivesmatter. I posted on this
yesterday, so in summary . . . All lives can’t matter until ALL lives matter .
. .
Minorities,
women, differently abled, LGBQT, different religious beliefs, unborn babies,
law enforcement, those who think differently than you . . . ALL of these must
matter before #alllivesmatter.
You
can’t be upset with #blacklivesmatter and say, “what about me?” Again, Jesus left the 99 to save the 1, but
still cared for the 99. Mom may give
more attention to one of her children who needs it at that moment, but still
loves you just as much.
Don’t
make this the thing next to the thing.
Do the right thing. Oh, and #vote.
